Using contemporary track lighting in the family room
By using modern style track lighting in the family room or any room in our homes, we create a sense of newness or being modern. We spend a lot of time in the family room so it’s more important to be comfortable with the illumination levels than to have modern fixtures.
I don’t like to use the word “contemporary” because it often reminds us of things that are a little eccentric and often weird. In this case though, to be modern is a good thing.
There are some great modern styles that help us create a family room ambiance where we can relax and enjoy ourselves. Sometimes contemporary fixtures are a little expensive and this is something to try to avoid.
Remember that contemporary anything means that it’s what is popular right now therefore it will be expensive. You will also be replacing it down the road with either the next popular thing or something that will endure the fashion trends.
OK, so this is not my idea of a cozy family room, but the lighting is cool. This is a combination of track and cable lighting. A popular way of installing track lighting in family rooms is by using them to illuminate entertainment centers.
When we use track lighting this way, it’s accent lighting to bring attention to a certain area. The convenience of being able to adjust and position the track lights make them perfect for family room illumination.
There are also recessed lights that cast illumination in a certain direction making them perfect for accent lighting. Accent lighting isn’t just for artwork and family photos. It also accents walls and ceilings to make the house seem bigger.
The most important thing about lighting in a family room is the purpose you will use it for. Don’t worry about trends or fashions because the family room will be a room that you and your family can be comfortable in.
Don’t stuff it with a bunch of fragile junk that impedes your ability to enjoy the room. That’s the most important thing to remember here.

I just wanted to say that I love your website. My husband and I followed your instructions on building our own home. Most of the work we did ourselves, but not all. We saved $90,000 in labor costs and now have a beautiful home that we own.

I built my own home doing all my own labor. My house costs me around $70,000 for materials. It took me 8 months to build and is about 2,000 square feet. I didn't think I could do it, but your house web site encouraged me. I used all the info you had.
Benny Luis Lopez,
I can't thank you enough for your free information web site about home building. I was looking for Electrical wiring diagrams when I found your site. It was very helpful.

My wife and I lost our home to foreclosure but we kept a plot of land to start over. We are halfway through the construction of our house. Your website gave us hope to start over and build a house with low payments. We are in our late 60's but we find it rewarding to put so much effort into a project that will reward us for years to come.
